“Who is the author of this building?” “That’s easy. Me, the architect!”

You might say.

Is the answer that simple? What if you are dealing with an existing building? Whose story will this be? The old architect or yours? How about the old masters that have inspired you during the design process, how much do they a ect you as a designer? Doesn’t contemporary culture make you who you are? And all the computer programs that you use; do they somehow control you?

If you are interested in exploring such questions, please join us for a two week introductory seminar with philosophical readings and architectural explorations in the built environment of New York. Architecture background is not mandatory but prefered. See our website for more information and feel free to contact us from our email address.

Dr. Barbara Stehle holds a Ph.D. from the Sorbonne University and taught at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for over 10 years in the architecture and interior architecture departments. She has given a Tedx talk on Architecture as Human Narrative. She currently runs her own heterotopia: “Art Intelligentsia” from New York, LA and Paris.

Alper Besen is originally from Istanbul and currently works at Deborah Berke Partners as a designer. He holds master’s degrees from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD,) Adaptive Reuse and School of Visual Arts (SVA,) Design Research, Writing and Criticism Departments.
